New Dawn reaches out to local people of…

‘People in their 50’s and 60’s have so much lived experience to offer’. Heather Bowness, Chief Executive feels passionately about this and says at this age ‘we still have so much more we want to give’. Hence New Dawn has started a poster campaign trying to reach out to this age group – to prompt a conversation about working in home care.

We would love to hear from you, for an informal chat about working with us. You can then decide about our no obligation ‘Try before you apply’ Taster shift where you can meet some of our friendly team and talk to them about their work as a Care Assistant; and see some of our work first hand.

You can also find out more on our website. Quotes from our team newdawncare.com/testimonial/staff  and more information about working for us can be found here on our recruitment page

New Dawn supports people to remain living in their own homes as independently as possible. We cover the Church Stretton/Craven Arms areas. We want to grow our team …so that we can support more people. And crucially, help those who are medically fit, to get back home from hospital as soon as possible.

Made with care. Start your career in care today

If you’re looking for meaningful work, where you can make a difference to people’s lives every single day, becoming a care worker could be the best move you make.

You don’t necessarily need qualifications or experience to work in social care. What’s really important is your values and attitude.

You can take a short quiz at adultsocialcare.co.uk/could-you-care-quiz to see if social care is the right career for you. Also at  newdawncare.com/testimonial/staff you can read how our staff turned their passion for helping others into careers in care.

Further general information about the role of care worker is also available at adultsocialcare.co.uk/social-care-job-roles/Care-worker

New Dawn Care Agency promoting Wheels to Work

At New Dawn Care Agency we have recently become aware of Shropshire RRC Wheels to Work services. Talking with them, we are hopeful that their e-bike and scooter services can help us attract people who want to work in social care but do not have their own transport.

Further, as social care offers job security, and with our pay rates, our staff find they can obtain finance to enable them to get their own car. We are very much hoping that Wheels to Work will be the first step on a career ladder for people not yet working in social care. To help dispel some of the myths about working in social care, we also offer ‘Try before you apply’ taster shifts.

Try before you apply

Unsure if social care is the job/career for you? Why not take up our offer to ‘try before you apply’? Shadow one of our friendly team, to get an insight into how rewarding the job can be, as well as what the work involves. To find out how you can volunteer for a shift with us, call 01584 856586 or email enquiry@newdawncare.com . Places allocated on a first come first serve basis.

Looking for a stable job or new career

Want to make a real difference in people’s lives? Then join our team because at New Dawn – we take care of our staff as much as our clients.

…and Social Care is a secure job. An aging population means our services are always needed – in fact we’re expanding our team to meet demand.

What does New Dawn offer me?

  • competitive rates of pay, a minimum of 4 weeks annual leave, plus statutory holidays and we pay travel time and mileage.
  • full training, including NVQ’s in Care (QCF) – so an opportunity for those starting out to ‘earn while you learn’; we’ve a track record in developing staff.
  • Working with clients in their own homes in and around Church Stretton/Craven Arms
  • We offer set runs with set clients (changes do occur e.g. new clients, staff annual leave or training).
  • Active encouragement for all employees to come up with ideas, especially when it comes to Care Plans and to enhancing clients’ quality of life.

What is care work? Care is about knowing the client, their likes/dislikes, engaging in their past life and experiences, developing a rapport that enables recognition of small changes, so you can adapt support. It’s also about maintaining dignity and respect. Care’s more than a job, it’s a vocation.

Is it hard work? Yes – but knowing you’ve made a real difference in someone’s life makes it all worth-while. There’s nothing like the feeling of a thank you from the client/their family.

Does it involve weekends? Yes – most clients need some support every day.

Some are early risers; hence the 7am start – to help them get up, showered, give medication, breakfast etc; i.e. fairly minor support. Calls during the day may be for just a chat, to make a cuppa or do some domestic tasks. Not all of our clients are early to bed – hence we work until 10pm. And yes, some of our clients have a much greater need for support.

Is previous experience essential? No…what you need is:

  • a passion to make a positive difference in peoples’ lives
  • a commitment to being a reliable team member – someone who your colleagues and our clients can depend on.
  • full driving licence and use of a reliable car is preferable, although some of our team walk between clients.
  • for you to live in, or close to, either Church Stretton or Craven Arms
  • able to work at least 16 hours a week, including alternate weekends; 00/7.30 am starts and/or 9.30/10.00pm finishes.

We work in teams covering the hours of 7am – 2pm and 4pm – 10pm; 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. Our Carers work anything from three to six hours at a time, depending on their circumstances and the requirements of our clients.

Full DBS checks are carried out on all staff and two references obtained.
